17 famous persons who were once pharmacists


Pharma profession is the most underrated and underpaid profession today. But don't lose hope because I am bringing, to you ,the list of famous persons who excelled in different field despite being a pharmacist.
1.Hubert Humphrey
Hubert Humphrey was an American politician who served as the 38th Vice President of the United States from 1965 to 1968.He also ran for the presidential election in 1968 but lost to Richard Nixon. He got his pharmacist license from the Capitol College of Pharmacy in 1931. He helped run his father's pharmacy until 1937.
2.Linda Evans Parlette
She is a former Washington state senator.She firstly ran for office in 1996 and won both the primary and general elections. She is a relief pharmacist in Wenatchee Clinic Pharmacy in Wenatchee,Washington.
3.Letica Van de Putte
She was elected for Louisiana senate in 2011. She is a community pharmacist and owns Mills cashway pharmacy in Parks,Louisiana. Van de Putte got her degree from Houston pharmacy program.Her grandfather was also a practicing pharmacist. After meeting her husband and getting married while in pharmacy school, she transferred to the University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy, from which she graduated in 1979. Upon graduation, she worked for her grandfather's pharmacy before buying her own business in the Loma Park area of San Antonio. She currently works part-time at the Davila Pharmacy on San Antonio's West Side.
4. Vicki Schmidt
She was elected as Kansas senate in 2005. She now practices as relief pharmacist in Walgreens.
5.Evans J Vickers
Elected to Utah house of representatives in 2008.
6. Alexander flemming
Known for the discovery of Penicillin; he was a Scottish biologist, pharmacologist and botanist.
7. Jesse Boot
He was the founder of Boots pharmacy which is a global company now.
8. Jon Pemberton
He invented Coca Cola in order to counteract his own addiction to morphine. Initially the drink contained alcohol and was marketed as a ‘Pemberton's French Wine Cola'. He later sold his company for treatment of his own addiction.
9.Freidrich Serturner
He was a german chemist who separated morphine from opium. As a pharmacist's assistant, Friedrich Serturner was the first chemist to separate morphium (morphine) from opium.
10.Wilbur Scoville
He was a well known American Pharmacist best known for his creation of scoville organoleptic test now standardized as scoville scale .He also worked with Parke-Davis pharmaceutical company.
11. Caleb Bradham
American Pharmacist Best known for being the inventor of Pepsi.
12. Benjamin Franklin
He is the man behind the saying ‘An apple a day keeps the doctor away' .
13. Sir Issac Newton
Yes you guessed it right. The father of Physics served as an apprentice apothecary in Grantham,England living with town's apothecary. While working in apothecary he felt in love with his Boss's daughter and later got married with the same girl. However he left apothecary to study Physics and Mathematics in Cambridge. He also left his wife and lived for rest of his life as a bachelor.
14. Pravin Jamnadas Gordhan
He was a South African politician and former Minister of Finance, a position he held from 2009-2014. He was also the former Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, serving from 2014-2015.Pravin Gordhan was born in Durban and matriculated from Sastri College in 1967. In 1973 he graduated from the University for Durban-Westville with a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree.
15. Sandra Julia Gidley
She was a Liberal politician in the United Kingdom. She was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Romsey in Hampshire from 2000 to 2010.She finished her education at the University of Bath where she was awarded a BPharm degree in 1978. She became a MRPharmS in 1979. In 1979 she joined Badham Chemists as a pharmacist in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, until she was appointed as a pharmacy manager with GK Chemists in Gloucester in 1980. She became a locum pharmacist in 1982 before joining Safeway as a supermarket pharmacy manager in 1992, and joined Tesco in the same position in 1999 where she remained until her election to the House of Commons.
16. Altaf Hussain
He is a pakistani politician living in exile as a neutralized citizen in UK. He is the leader and founder of karachi based party Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) in pakistan.Altaf Hussain was a pharmacist before being a politician. He is an alumni of Karachi University and holds Bachelor of Pharmacy degree. After graduating from the university, Hussain began his career as a trainee at the Seventh-day Adventist Hospital in Karachi while simultaneously working for a multinational pharmaceutical company.
17.Georg Trakl
He was an Austrian poet and brother of the pianist Grete Trakl. He is perhaps best known for his poem "Grodek", which he wrote shortly before he died of a cocaine overdose
